Leaders of the nation's federal vaccine effort, called Operation Warp Speed, said the U.S. has deployed around 14 million vaccine doses as of Wednesday with just 2.1 million Americans vaccinated.

[Question - Other] Am I over thinking this?
Morning all. I’d like to start by saying that this is in no way major, but I feel my twangs warrant an opinion; just not sure it’s a medical one.
I am female,36, and have had the copper coil in for 3 years (plus) now. I have been having “twangs” mid cycle for almost ever. I’m assuming ovulation as I’ve heard people can feel that and given that it’s normal for me and that I do not have painful or heavy periods I’ve never really questioned it.
Recently I’ve been getting full on crampy period pain when I am not due. Totally wrong time of the month (I am like clockwork) and my (minor) cramps used to just be a couple of days before.
My Gran went through menopause at my age, is this a symptom? Is there a possibility it’s to do with my coil? I’ve had it so long I wouldn’t have thought so...? I’m up to date with smears.
Bodies differ, and bodies change. Should I be bothering a professional about something as minor as cramps at a time like this?
I just got my wisdom teeth removed, and I used these gauges with out realizing that they had these chemicals. I used like 5 until I got rid of them. I found out that the gauges, hadsomething like it includes 0.2% polyhexamethylene biguanide. Im I good? Please help I’m scared

I'm in Tennessee and looking for a way to keep up contributions to my HSA when I change jobs.
Being that some hoops need to be jumped through/the high deductible plan requirement seems to be ironclad, my + wife's medical expenses for the year rarely exceed $1000, so it pains to pay more for a PPO/similar plan when the HSA is where the money needs to go.
After the job change, going to have a 60-90 day coverage gap and the healthcare costs at the new company are currently unknown.
The HSA makes the most sense, and I'd like to explore the options if such thing exists to go self-managed with it and what companies could offer such.
Looking for policy and procedures for a day program for special needs adults to become more independent in all aspects of life.
My friend is starting a business and is having a hard time finding a draft of the appropriate policy and procedures. You have to be employed to see what each company specifically has. We just need something to look at and go off of.
Can any one look at their employment paper work and email me what your company uses. Or any links to help out. Thanks, Happy New Year!
I tested positive for Covid on December 9th and it is December 29th and still cannot taste or smell anything. How much longer until this annoying worrying thing goes away?
Pretty much everyone agrees that US healthcare is a mess. It’s a very inequitable system. the plethora of different types of plans and what they cover and cost is also huge source of confusion, stress, and worry for Americans. Examples also include stuff like surprise emergency billing, high costs of out-of-network coverage, high co-pays or drug prices being all over the place. There is also the fact that most of our population is not really literate on discussing and understanding healthcare. No healthcare system is perfect, but I’m wondering if folks in countries with more equitable and straightforward healthcare systems, such as single payer and universal healthcare, ever experience remotely similar confusion or stress in trying to understand their healthcare. I’m guessing it will never be as aggravating as trying to navigate the byzantine US system, but can you share any significant problems to your healthcare systems, especially those that are major political talking points in your country?
in my previous post i described an event that happened to me where i lost my energy and collapsed onto the floor multiple times and had trouble breathing. you guys said that i need to see a doctor as soon as possible. so, i asked my parents. they said "well, you're feeling better now, and it's not really an emergency so we can't take you to an emergency room, and the clinics are closed for the holidays and they have the staff that don't know what they're doing on the weekends." so the next day i asked again. "i don't think there's any treatment they'll give you besides resting and drinking water, and you're feeling better now." after i complained about that a bit more my parents sighed and asked me a little bit more about what was happening, and then agreed to schedule an appointment for at least a week later. this was after a lot of convincing. but staying in bed all day sucks, and i get out of breathe even more easily, and end up gasping for air after doing something as simple as yawning. i need to sit down or grab on to something after walking 5 feet. i feel like i shouldn't wait a week to see a doctor.
edit: old post got deleted, here is what it said: [Question-Other] not sure if this is the place to ask, but i feel like i'm dying so i might as well
so, i'm young, in the 12-18 range. recently, and especially in the past 10-20 minutes or so, i've had shortness of breathe and kinda just collapse sometimes. the past 10-20 minutes is what worries me more though. so i stated feeling sick maybe 30 minutes ago? i started looking up my symptoms but i got bored and saw that the living room light was on downstairs, and i felt like i needed to tell a parent if they were awake (it's late at night for me). well, no one was down their except my dog, and i noticed her food and water bowls were almost empty so i decided to refill them. when i finished filling up the water though, i started GASPING for air. i was completely winded for about 15 seconds, and was out of breathe a little while more. i put her dog bowl back where it usually is and pet my dog but end up collapsing on the ground instead, meanwhile petting my dog. i eventually gather the strength to head back up the stairs, and as usual got quite tired halfway up (10-15 stairs total). i barely made it up the last two steps. when i reached the hallway by my bedroom (probably a 5 step walk) i just fell down on my back and didn't get up for a while. my mom saw the hallway light and asked if i was okay, and i told her a few details and she just told me to get some sleep. my chest hurts a tiny bit now, it feels weird and i hav a headache. i started feeling nauseous when this whole thing started. what should i do?
In middle school and high school I was on track and feild, cross country, and ultimate frisbee. I also played baseball but broken my arm so I stopped.
Outside of school I ran, skateboarded, snowboarded, and road my bike EVERYWHERE.
I'm 24 years old now and have just recently started working out, but for the past few years I find that every time I run or just exert a lot of energy at one time, I'm out of breath but mostly feel like I'm about to vomit.
Some times I do vomit. What could this be? Is it just the fact that I haven't been physically active enough in the past few years and I'm out of shape? Or could there be something else wrong?
I should also mention this happens as well if I sit for a long period of time and then start walking. Like after watching a movie at a movie theatre.
My wife is about to start working as a doctor at the VA in Texas and we are trying to select a plan that pays for freezing embryos.
It's pretty hard to determine which of the plans listed here might pay for cryopreservation. Does anyone know if this is an option under any of the government sponsored healthcare plans in Texas? Many thanks.
I'm seeing a private medical professional whose business card reads RN, BSN, LMSW, and CAADC listed. With these listed are they able to diagnose using the DSM-5 specifically adhd. This particular person is used by most of my family but since I'm out of state we have therapy over Skype and overall I think our sessions really do help even though we're just starting. I want to find a doctor in my state who can treat me effectively. Would a doctor agree with his findings or refer me to someone else. I want to be taken seriously and approach this as best as I can. If unknown do you know where I could find the answer without embarrassing myself to a doctor?
I just finished my first semester of university at the University of Calgary for kinesiology. Im honestly starting to get a little worried about future job prospects.
My plan A is to finish my degree in kinesiology and then go into PT, which is evidently, very competitive. I have a good work ethic, im a smart kid and I try hard. I finished my first semester with around a 3.9 GPA so far. However, im starting to realize just how competitive and hard it will be for me to get into PT in the future. I work 25 hours a week in order to pay for my rent, my car, food, school etc. and im really just starting to fear that my best might not be good enough to get me into that competitive of a graduate program.
I know I for sure want to work in Healthcare sector, and like everyone else, I want to make good money while being able to help people. I aspire to have a family in the future and work in a career that has good hours that would not take me away from my family in the middle of the night or work crazy extensive work hours. Asides from that, if I can work a fulfilling career where I can help people, and where the work is remotely enjoyable, id be a happy man.
Do you guys believe that Kinesiology might be a dead end degree if I cant get into a grad school? Are there other opportunities I should be assessing or looking at more closely? What type of job prospects are out there that I might not have even thought about? I'd love to hear more about what you guys think.
Thank you.
I don't really know if this is the sub for it, but I wanted to put the question to reddit.
I recently earned a Masters of Healthcare Administration (similar to a business degree, but healthcare specific) in the US. I'm currently searching for positions in the US, but I was curious if there was any type of job market in the EU, Canada, or elsewhere in the world?
Given that the rest of the world provides healthcare differently is there a less of a need for specialized administrative skills?
I just can’t justify the debt of PA or OT school but part of me feels like my bachelors is a waste if I don’t use it for grad school 😭😭😭
Hello! There’s finally an opening for a nearby EMT course and I’m going to an open-interview where there will be an assessment & aptitude test. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I’m not exactly sure, and curious if there is something I should be studying for beforehand? Thank you in advance! I can’t wait to see any and all advice I can get. Gaining a spot in their class means the world to me.
Prices set by pharma companies for their drugs are too high, and so are the retail prices for the patients (despite insurance coverage). However, the insurance companies would generally cover drugs that are affordable to the patients and they are capable of covering the costs of it. It makes sense that the patient would prefer a cheaper drug that does the same function as the expensive branded one.
What I don't understand is that if there are groups like pharmaceutical benefit managers (PBMs) that negotiate these prices with the pharma companies -- so that the drug is listed high on the formulary -- why are still drug prices so high? Take insulin for example; it will only benefit a company to sell insulin at an affordable rate (compared to the crazy prices of the others). The patients would certainly prefer that drug, the drug would rank higher on the formulary and be preferred by the insurance companies, and thus the pharma company would earn from the volume it would sell. Why then don't these pharma companies reduce their drug prices?
And if they don't, how do the PBMs even negotiate with them? (Since buying the cheapest one doesn't make sense either).
Basically, I want good coverage for these issues in addition to basic plan costs.
I’m looking for a cheap individual health insurance plan to go on, does anyone have any suggestions and how much does that plan cover and cost?
Hi! I'm a software developer. I was wondering if you'd be interested in a website listing vetted healthcare facilities in the world, with ratings, reviews etc. and the ability to make an appointment. Healthcare in the US is prohibitively expensive for the uninsured so a website that helps ease the search for procedures abroad would help
What do you think?
What do I do? I don’t know how to get it out and when I open the cut I can see dirt inside, but the cut is too small to be able to get rid of it. My finger is in a small amount of pain and the tip is numb already, this may be due to the cut (obviously) but I’m frightened that it may be because of the dirt trapped inside. What do I use? The doctors are closed and I have to medical supplies.

Why can't insurance companies allow hospitals to be a one-stop shop rather than forcing patients to bounce around from hospital to hospital just to stay in-network? I don't see a way that surprise billing could be eliminated unless the concept of networks is abolished. There will always be loopholes for them to argue that the patient could've stayed in-network. I feel like there's no downside to covering all licensed providers, but I'm not an expert. What do you guys think?
I would to talk about a condition that is a little less famous than Covid19...
It's called Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) and it's a persistent iatrogenic (= drug-induced) condition that affects some people who have used SSRI or SNRI drugs, i.e. the classes of serotonergic antidepressants most commonly used today, prescribed mainly for "Major Depression", but also for 'Anxiety Disorders' and 'Eating Disorders', and in recent years their use has been extended to other pathological situations, such as pain therapy, sleep disorders, panic attacks and some forms of headache.
The first case reports in the literature date back to 2006. It is a serious impairment of the sexual and sometimes emotional functioning of the individual, who becomes unable to react to sexual stimuli and sometimes loses the ability to feel emotions, developing symptoms such as genital anaesthesia, anhedonic orgasm and emotional numbness, to name but a few.
Given the difficulty in highlighting that these dysfunctions are iatrogenic in origin, given the fact that "sexual dysfunction" is generically considered a common symptom of depression and other mental disorders, it took several years for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to conduct a thorough review of spontaneous reports and case reports of people with PSSD. It concluded in 2019 with a new Warning for antidepressants of the SSRI and SNRI classes: 'in some cases sexual dysfunction may persist after treatment discontinuation'. A rather ambiguous phrase, isn't it?
In 2020, the leaflets are up to date. The authors and specialists who have been following patients with PSSD for years rather see that year after year the condition shows no improvement, and appears permanent.
Scientific research is taking its first steps. A first epidemiological study is about to be conducted. Several aetiological hypotheses have been proposed. From alterations in neurosteroids, to epigenetics, to Transient Receptor Potential at the level of the small nerve fibres in the genitals.
I invite those who suffer from PSSD to keep up to date and to get in touch with patient communities. We are the first ones who must move to spread awareness and draw attention and medical research to the problem so that a cure can be found, so let's not lose hope.
If you have any questions to explore this topic further, such as links to scientific literature, patient communities and specialists involved, I am available.
Can someone explain how IPAs negotiate with the insurance companies (and what do they negotiate)? How exactly do they function on an individual claim basis? For example, what would the end-to-end process be once a patient visits an HCP and when the HCP needs to be paid for it, where does the IPA come in?
And also, at the end of the day, how the IPAs earn money?
I tried looking online but everywhere it's the same thing about IPA negotiating "something". It's very confusing and any explanation would be very helpful!
I understand the PBMs make deals with pharma companies and receive rebates in exchange for reduced prices and listing the particular drug on Tier-1 of the formulary. But what happens when different companies compete for a similar drug (manufactured by both of them) to be listed in Tier-1? Whom does the PBM list? And what role does the US Govt. have in this?
Ok so I normally manscape all over like every now and then with a standard electric shaver but is there any easier way? Or a specific razor that is better when it comes to shaving especially down below? Or like some hair removal liquid that can go in the bath or something?
Title says it all. I’m a 15 year old boy and I’ve noticed that my foreskin drags really far back, and it causes to open up a hole at the end of the penis head. It was small before, but now it got bigger. Is it normal? Or do I need to go to the doctor
Hey, I'm Canadian so don't really understand the US system but am trying to learn.
I looked up health care insurance plans based on me and my wife's joint income and it seems incredibly expensive.
the cheapest I found was $480/mo premium with a $17k deductible... so from what I understand is that you pay 480 every month but you still ALSO have to pay for all your medical expenses up to 17k as well? is this correct?
Also, I was looking up these plans as if to just buy them of my own accord... if you were to get this plan through a job, how would it change? would your job cover the monthly payment but not the deductible?
(Note: I am not a Covid-19 denier. I wear masks constantly, social distance whenever appropriate, and practice proper hygiene on a continuing basis through my day. This is simply an observation.)
We launched an emergency room/urgent care pricing application to help Americans find affordable, high-quality health providers. The BETA is for California only, try a CA Zipcode to check out the functionality.

We're hoping to cover the entire country in the next 2 weeks to a month. We'll also launch a free app-based version of this information.
Appreciate your feedback to help us improve. We're still working out the kinks, so there are still bugs :) My personal mission is healthcare price transparency.
Hi, a little bit of context. I am an international student in the US who just graduated from a US University. My university insurance ended and I am now working at an internship for next year which does have health benefits.
Due to the pandemic, I can't go to my home country to buy international insurance (cheap in India). Hence, my only option (as far I know) is to look into short term insurance plans (EVEREST, National General, UnitedHealthcare). I wanted to get a general idea of what people's experiences have been with such plans.
Are they a good option considering how cheap they are compared to my University insurance and their reliability in times of the pandemic (such as hospitalization if I get sick etc.). Also, are there any options I could look into that might help with my situation (non-citizen of US)?
I am really confused with this whole thing and any help or resources are appreciated. Someone told me to find a health broker but I am not too sure if that is a good idea either.
This seems to be a major issue for students like me and with very few resources offered by my university or on the internet. So hopefully this helps someone else too.
For no reason, some parts of my skin become very sensitive every month or so, not like painful but very itchy/sensitive, and I don't think I have any allergic reactions and/or skin health problems. Can someone tell me what this is? Is it bad?
I am interested in MHA / MBA and I was wondering what kind of jobs to expect in healthcare administration field. I would like to get an insight kn What are your work hours? And how flexible is your schedule? Weekends/Holidays off? Do you have to be on call or get calls outside of work hours?
Hello, everyone.
I'm looking for people who work in emergency medicine (first responders, ER, etc) to answer a few questions for a research paper I'm working on about the unsolved issues currently present in the emergency medical system.
If this applies to you, please send me a private message.
Thank you all in advance.
Hi all,
My company is moving into the healthcare industry (from tech to health tech) and I'm trying to find a book that gives an overview of the industry with key vocabulary and the overall structure of all the players in the industry in the US.
Does anyone have anything that might be helpful to someone with no previous healthcare experience?
I recently had a baby and as such I'm able to make changes to my health care plan. The change to the insurance is the date of birth of my child. So I'm canceling my coverage effective 11/29 and my husband is adding us to his coverage under a family plan as of 11/29. My coverage costs about $550+ a month and my husband will pay about $150 a month to cover all of us. Since I'm going on maternity leave, I'd have to pay the $550 out of pocket -so this is why we decided to make the change in coverage.
My question is -if I term my coverage effective 11/29 (date of birth of child) -am I not covered for that day at the hospital? How does that work? Do I need to quickly get the billing switched to my husband's coverage for that day? My coverage was single with a $400 deductible. The new family coverage under my husband's plan has a $1000 deductible. Would I be expected to pay the $1000?
Not sure if I'm over analyzing how this works! I just don't want a surprise huge maternity bill because I'm trying to save a few hundred dollars.
Anyone have a similar situation?
