Hi! New to reddit and this is my first post. I’ve had a growing interest in natural products over time and trying to switch to things that are kinder to my body. I’ve always had sensitive skin which is another reason for this switch (as well as chemicals washing down drains etc..) Anyway, I’ve tried a couple of different natural deodorants which tend to work fine in terms of de-odourising however of course I still sweat. I’ve found that my sweat actually irritates the skin under my arms/side and causes dry patches. Does anyone know if there’s a way around this? It could be that I just need to continue to use anti-perspirant instead of natural deodorant but I don’t want to give up too easily. Sorry for the ramble! All suggestions and ideas very welcome!

Non-oily moisturiser ideas
I'm looking for a vegan natural moisturiser. I'd prefer to have minimal ingredients/make it myself than buy a moisturiser from a store.
I've tried using multiple oils inc. jojoba oil and coconut oil, but they leave an oily residue on my skin for over an hour which isn't good for going to work etc.

[Question-Other] How can I help frontline healthcare workers get support to fight COVID?
Feel free to DM me, but how can I help? I'm hearing so many stories about how X hospital is prepared for another COVID surge but Y hospital has no plan, admin won't say anything, ICU is almost at capacity, etc. Is there a centralized org that helps with this stuff that I can donate to? Who can I call/write letters to? My mom is an RN and her hospital has been good with PPE and she is in a state that is down trending, but I am reading horror stories about ICUs in Florida being full and there's NO plan in place for the surge... WTF? Please let me know if there's any way a layman can help.

DIY crystal spray deodorant by dissolving crystal stone
I have found next to no information regarding homeade spray deoderants mimicking ones on Amazon such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Deodorant-Stone-Crystal-Natural/dp/B00Y31W2KI/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=crystal+deodorant+spray&qid=1593453223&s=beauty&sr=1-9
I was wondering if I can dissolve a stone in water and put it in a spray bottle for convenience. Yes, that would involve me buying a stone anyway so it seems counterproductive, but I'm mostly thinking for when the stone gets too small to use easily or dropped and broken into small pieces. I'm not sure the technique or how much water per amount of stone to use. Any ideas would be appreciated.

[Question - Other] non-CAHME MHA program worth it for my situation?
Hi there, I’m 33 and an occupational therapist with an MOT with 3 years of hospital work experience in the medical field as an OT, currently working in inpatient rehab at a nonprofit hospital in the PNW. I have several years of other unrelated work experience from before I got my MOT that isn’t very noteworthy.
My wife recently got a job with CSU Global, and she and I are offered heavily discounted tuition with their online programs. I’m thinking about taking advantage of the discount to get another degree to try to move into healthcare management positions to increase my overall earnings beyond what I could make as an OT in the next several years. This wasn’t my plan originally when I became an OT, but I don’t want to miss an opportunity if it’s good.
CSU Global is a strictly online school with an MHA program, but it isn’t CAHME accredited. I’ve read that CAHME is the gold standard for MHA, partly due to the inclusion of a fellowship at the end of CAHME-programs that can launch you into your managerial career (I think?).
However, given that I could have 5+ years of experience in the field by the time I finish the online degree while working full time as an OT, I’m wondering if the networking and resume boost I get from my work experience can make up for the MHA not being CAHME accredited and help me land a managerial healthcare job after I finish the degree.
Also, I read somewhere that fellowships at the end of MHA only pay around 50k, and I make 83k now and likely will make close to 90k by the time I would finish the MHA. So I’m not so keen on the fellowship route anyway because of that, especially if I could get a managerial job that pays more than what I make as an OT without the fellowship.
Lastly, will the MHA even do anything to make me stand out for a management position if I already have a grad degree in the form of the MOT with work experience? Are the gains from having a second graduate degree like an MHA marginal in this specific situation?
It seems hard to find this info through Google searches so I was hoping someone here might have some thoughts/advice. Thanks!

Hyaluronic acid dried my skin out.
I used hyaluronic acid on my skin, and it ended up drying me out. I asked an esthetician what this means and she said it means my skin is very dry and doesn't have the moisture to hold that water in my skin. Now that I figured out the problem of why hyaluronic acid dried me out, what can i do about this to fix this and to get my skin back to normal and not dry? By the way, I used retin-a and benzoyl peroxide 3 years ago which is what initially caused my dry skin, but have not used it in 2 years. Hyaluronic acid gave me even more dry skin. I used hyaluronic acid more recently.

Any perfumers out there who can help with scent of hand sanitizer
Due to health issues hand sanitizers give me headaches, especially scented ones but the smell of alcohol is so strong. What can help neutralize the smell?
Real dangers of making hand sanitizer
Why are so many science bloggers advising against making hand sanitizer because of the fire risk? They are no elaborating on safety and storage. Its one thing to warn someone but I've been coming across way too many "smart" people who love to show how smart they are but then not really have any real information to offer. So I'm wondering if these bloggers are just being smart or are advising correctly. I can't stand the store bought ones, even unscented so I wanted to experiment with my own and also create something I can mist on surfaces like door knobs and shopping carts.

Creating a Perfume from Homemade Distilled Scents
Good Evening Everyone,
I hope your all staying safe. Today I have decided to take some of my scent oils I have been making in the past two weeks and use them to make a perfume. In the previous weeks, I have created rosemary oil, rose oil and distilled limonene. I will be pulling the scent from pine sap, as the last smell within the perfume.
You can see the process here.
I used 95% to create this perfume, with ratios of 10% oil to 90% ethanol. I then created some ethanol that was 100% with the help of distilling and storing over molecular sieves (sizes 3A)
I then found that perfume uses different mixtures of oils to create a smell, usually with bottom, middle and top notes as to give the perfume depth.
If anyone has any advice on how to make it even better next time please let me know!

Unilever: Not So Fair & Lovely
So.. Unilever is in hot waters atm because it won’t stop selling its line of skin lightening cosmetic products Fair & Lovely
It’s probably noteworthy to say that Johnson & Johnson has recently announced it will stop marketing any skin whitening/lightening products.
Personally, I think the debate really boils down to the kind of advertisement that Unilever has been using for the past 55 years to market its products in India and other markets.
They rely on colonialist attitudes towards race and skin colour as well as on emotional blackmail, which I find really troubling.
I’m also quite conflicted on how and why we can continue allowing Unilever to appear ethical and moral in the West when it continues to engage in such morally dubious practices in developing countries?
I’m looking forward to hearing what you guys think

[Question - Insurance] Do I have to pay for previous months to enroll during SEP?
I have the option to elect for COBRA or to buy a plan from the ACA marketplace. I know that if I elect COBRA at the end of the 60 day window, I have to pay the premiums retroactively dating back to the qualifying event (losing my job). Will the same apply if I buy a marketplace plan? I don't see anywhere that states so, and when using healthcare.gov it says that my plan will become effective at the beginning of the coming month. If I don't have to pay previous months, I'll probably go with the marketplace plan. Can anyone confirm that I won't be paying previous months?

Have you ever left coconut oil in your hair for 8 hours?
I've been trying many natural hair masks lately and one of the most recommended one is coconut oil for its power of absorbing in the hair.
So the other day I decided to give it a try and leave it on my hair overnight! Next day, I was shocked by the amazing results obtained from leaving coconut oil in my hair for only 8 hours. My hair was extremely shiny, super soft, and the most amazing result was how thick my hair felt and looked! Btw my hair is thin like a spaghetti so this was mind blowing for me!
For how long and thin my hair is only needed one and a half tablespoon of pure coconut oil. I learnt that the best way to apply coconut oil to your hair is to start with small amounts and gradually spread the oil through your hair. At the end I used both of my hands to massage it and to make sure that the coconut oil was absorbed in hair I covered my head with a scarf.
In the morning, I double rinse my hair to remove all the oils left from the coconut oil and let my hair air dry the entire day. I really hope you try!

Massage oil vs balm
what do you prefer between these two?
I've never tried massage balms or waxes but I'm pretty fascinated by the idea.
The only thing that's keeping me from making some is that I wonder whether it'd be hard to wash them off. Also, I think the wax in the balms would trap the dirt/ dead skin cells and a layer of goop would remain on the skin, even after taking a shower.

Amazing Magical Mountain Hair Oil (with images, formula, & spreadsheet!)
Hi all! I promised a few people here that I would share the hair oil recipe I've been using. I customized a spreadsheet I found online here to make it work with what I am trying to accomplish. In case the embed below doesn't work, images are available here.
<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/Mqhd9c1" ><a href="[//imgur.com/a/Mqhd9c1](//imgur.com/a/Mqhd9c1)">Magical Mountain Hair Oil!</a></blockquote><script async src="[//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js](//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js)" charset="utf-8"></script>
The ingredients were chosen based on their properties to be deeply moisturizing, antimicrobial, and antifungal, however feel free to play around with what you have available and what your needs are. I had been having some trouble with a flaky scalp around my hairline near my forehead, as well as in the back of my head. This cleared it up within ONE USE and as a bonus makes my super thick(both in quantity and individual strand thickness) feel the smoothest, healthiest, and most vibrant its ever been.
This is only my second batch, and while the first one remained a consistent mixture, this formula (which I had to recreate from scratch) has the lanolin/usnea portion settling at the bottom. It redistributes easily when mixed. I create the usnea extract myself, and chose it for its preservative and antimicrobial properties. You may not need this in yours, but I do think the small amount of liquid lanolin makes a difference.
My directions for use:
BEFORE SHAMPOOING: Thoroughly wet hair. Add a small amount of oil directly to the scalp throughout the head. Take a minute or two to massage the oil into your scalp to ensure even coverage. Gently comb through hair to let it distribute lightly throughout the hair from roots to tips. Let sit for 5-10 minutes in the shower, or for a deeper treatment, leave the oil in overnight. Rinse with very warm water.* Shampoo as normal 2-3x to remove excess oil, rinsing with the hottest water you can safely use.*
Use once every 2 weeks to 2x per week depending on your needs!
Be careful not to get any oil in your eyes. Wash hands thoroughly before touching face after use.
\* I believe the heat helps the oil soak in and evenly distribute. I've read some people sit in the sun with the oil in their hair, but I try not to get excessive sun exposure, and I don't have time to sit in the sun, so this is the method I use.
I hope you all enjoy it, and please let me know how it worked for you if you were able to try it!!

[Question - Other] Questions for Providers: Why don't you use PGHD applications?
Quick Background: The application (MHP) takes Patient-Generated Health Data (pregnancy-related) and directs it straight into the EHR.
My project is to get feedback from providers on the experience they are having using our application portal. In many cases, providers are not actually using our service, so we want to get feedback as to why and if we could improve the portal in any way, how. What are some questions I should be asking? So far, I have:
Yes/No/Unsure
- Have you had trouble finding the MHP Portal in your EHR system?
- Do you find the data that MHP collects to be valuable to your practice?
- Is MHP commonly known among providers in your location of practice?
- Have you had issues with patients keeping up to date with submitting data?
- Do you feel as if there is a lack of communication between providers (nurses, doctors, etc.) about patients using MHP?
Discuss
- Discuss any issues with your access to the MHP Portal.
- Discuss any issues with the MHP Portal’s usability.
- How helpful has MHP been in your practice?
- What is one change that MHP can make to most improve our portal and/or relationship with the EHR?
- What is one change that MHP can make to most improve the data that we are collecting? Is there any data that we could add to improve our analytics?
- If applicable, what is the most prominent reason for not utilizing the MHP application in your practice?
- If you have had a positive experience with MHP, please share here.
I would appreciate any help I can get!
