Hi all! I promised a few people here that I would share the hair oil recipe I've been using. I customized a spreadsheet I found online here to make it work with what I am trying to accomplish. In case the embed below doesn't work, images are available here.
<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/Mqhd9c1" ><a href="[//imgur.com/a/Mqhd9c1](//imgur.com/a/Mqhd9c1)">Magical Mountain Hair Oil!</a></blockquote><script async src="[//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js](//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js)" charset="utf-8"></script>
The ingredients were chosen based on their properties to be deeply moisturizing, antimicrobial, and antifungal, however feel free to play around with what you have available and what your needs are. I had been having some trouble with a flaky scalp around my hairline near my forehead, as well as in the back of my head. This cleared it up within ONE USE and as a bonus makes my super thick(both in quantity and individual strand thickness) feel the smoothest, healthiest, and most vibrant its ever been.
This is only my second batch, and while the first one remained a consistent mixture, this formula (which I had to recreate from scratch) has the lanolin/usnea portion settling at the bottom. It redistributes easily when mixed. I create the usnea extract myself, and chose it for its preservative and antimicrobial properties. You may not need this in yours, but I do think the small amount of liquid lanolin makes a difference.
My directions for use:
BEFORE SHAMPOOING: Thoroughly wet hair. Add a small amount of oil directly to the scalp throughout the head. Take a minute or two to massage the oil into your scalp to ensure even coverage. Gently comb through hair to let it distribute lightly throughout the hair from roots to tips. Let sit for 5-10 minutes in the shower, or for a deeper treatment, leave the oil in overnight. Rinse with very warm water.* Shampoo as normal 2-3x to remove excess oil, rinsing with the hottest water you can safely use.*
Use once every 2 weeks to 2x per week depending on your needs!
Be careful not to get any oil in your eyes. Wash hands thoroughly before touching face after use.
\* I believe the heat helps the oil soak in and evenly distribute. I've read some people sit in the sun with the oil in their hair, but I try not to get excessive sun exposure, and I don't have time to sit in the sun, so this is the method I use.
I hope you all enjoy it, and please let me know how it worked for you if you were able to try it!!
