Running is a therapy to mental anxiety and depression

I have read books and articles stating that running and regular exercise gives mental boost and helps with anxiety and mental depression. Not only that but also makes us resistant to future depression episodes.

Then why do famous athletes have mental depression ? Am I missing some information ?
