I was recently laid off and am now eligible for Cobra. Quickly following my last official day of employment I began a new job and am eligible for a new company healthcare plan.
Former companies health insurance plan was top notch and given size of layoffs they are covering my cobra premiums for 6 months.

Does anyone know if I’m eligible for cobra IF I can opt into a new plan, but can ultimately decline new health plan?

And does the subsidy ending in August count as termination of healthcare allowing me to opt into new companies plan off cycle with their annual enrollment?
I recognize this is a good position to be in, and am grateful for the healthcare options. I am bummed to be moving to a High deductible plan and would like to take advantage of the better (& free) plan if possible.
