Thyroid testing questions: why will doctors only run a TSH test for thyroid and don’t want to run a Free T3 , Free T4 & a reverse T3 test? The insurance will pay for it and what little an insurance won’t pay the individual will pay. So the clinic isn’t out anything.

In healthy people a reverse T3 isn’t clinically useful but if you have hypothyroid and the medication isn’t helping the symptoms then a reverse T3 might show you have been prescribed the wrong medication. Why is it so hard to get a doctor to run these additional tests?
