i f19 have had tinnitus, hearing damage and loss in both of my ears for 8 years and it’s never bothered me until now. a month ago i took a hearing test at my regular doctors office and missed a lot, they scheduled another hearing test for me at a ENT doctor and i failed the shit out of that too. he talked to my parents and i and said it’s time to start considering hearing aids. the problem is that they aren’t covered by insurance and we can’t afford them. i think my hearing is fine, but then i started thinking about when i get older. what can/should i do?
- i live in the us
- i don’t think my hearing is bad enough for hearing aids, but i always downplay shit like this when it comes to me, but if the doctor thinks i need them then clearly it’s worse than i thought
- i can hear when people call my name, but everything either sounds unbearably loud or extremely quiet. and when people speak, the words sound jumbled. like they sound out of order if that makes sense
