Why all new patients have to fill in a paper form [Discussion]

Hi guys,

I just don't understand why every time when I visit a doctor or health institution for the first time I have to fill in a paper form with my details.

Why those institutions just provide an option to do it online?

It is very annoying to stay in the office filling in a 30 minutes form, instead of having a checkup if I did it in advance.

Have you ever been to a doctor's office where you can do that online in advance?

[Question - Other] What could cause 2 weeks of heartburn chest pains

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'm desperate and scared for my loves wellbeing. She's been having chest pains for about 2 weeks now, pains like a heartburn. She says its sometimes hard to swallow and eat and she's in constant pain with no sign of it letting up. She went to the ER yesterday because the pain became unbearable and she nurses were just trying to dismiss the pain as a panic attack, keep in mind she has been having this pain for weeks. They tried to give her some cold water to drink to lower her heart rate to get her out of there but she was in so much pain she could not even drink the water. She got some blood work and got her stool tested but there was nothing there (We were thinking she had an ulcer). She's trying to get X-rays done but after waiting 4 hours in the waiting room they finally told her the Radiologist was not in today. She's in pain and I want to help but I'm scared and worried it is something serious and we have no idea what is causing the pain. I just want her to be ok and smile again.

[Question - Insurance] Partner and I will be without work based health care for a month or so, what are our options?

Pardon such a basic question. Ive had work based health care my whole life, until last year, not working enough hours to qualify anymore for my union's health care, as I change careers and transition into some other things. My spouse's job based health care, of course, has covered us both in the meantime. But my spouse has just quit and will be taking a month off (we anticipate a month, could be a little more) and want to know what all our options are at this point. Her last day will be Jun 15th.

COBRA is all I know about - which I know is really expensive. My spouse is new to the country in the last several years so, is even less familiar with other options than me.

So the other option I can think of is the ACA - but I know next to nothing about how it works, how and when we are eligible, and considering we have only a month or two off coverage, if that's a practical option to begin with. On top of this, someone told me I am only eligible to register for it certain times of the year.

So are their other cheaper options than COBRA, for a month or two? Is the ACA my goto here? If its only a month or 2 is COBRA the more practical solution.

Thank you in advance for any insight, Ive never been in this situation before.

[Discussion]- For those working in larger cities that have had protests/riots this weekend, have you seen a noticeable increase in COVID related hospitalizations?

From what I could tell, social distancing was minimal and mask use was 50-50. I'm curious to see what the effect will be.

**not trying to politicize this**

[Question - Insurance] COBRA coverage and waiving insurance from new job

I currently work for a company that has very good health care but am taking a new job starting in a couple of weeks. I worked out a deal with the new company where I would waive coverage from them but they would give me a signing bonus to help cover the costs of COBRA so I can stay on my previous company's healthcare for several more months (there's a specific benefit that my wife and I are using and it is not offered as part of the new company's plan).

The new company has open enrollment in October of this year so my question is: if I continue on COBRA past October, can I still join the new company's insurance plan whenever I decide to end my COBRA coverage or do I have to wait until the next year's open enrollment (October 2021)?
