I have a friend who has dealt with the majority of overdoses in the facility(Halfway House). I am their go to when it comes to speaking about their feelings.
They have yet had a fatality but I understand how hard it is to see someone in that state.
How do you keep communication safe with them, and work them through this? I believe this person has some form of trauma from saving people.
The last time an Overdose happened prior to today this staff member had two at once. Same room. Same bunk. The other staff member was much older and unable to perform narcan procedures, and rescue breathing/CPR so he saved two people while waiting for AMR.
He called me after the event and due to me being in another state I was unable to meet them personally. They were not okay after that one.
The job does have a crisis interventionist but they only call the facility ask a couple of questions then THEY determine whether or not you need extra help post event.
If anyone can point me to some resources in how to help or talk through these events that would be helpful.
Thank you.
