Health Insurance from June-Dec?

I have an employee on a G-5 visa, which started working for us (in MD) in Feb. Since last year she also worked in the US and had health insurance, she was supposed to continue paying for health insurance so that the coverage is uninterrupted. To make the long story short, we just found out that she had not paid since last October and that her health insurance was cancelled in January 2024. To be clear, this is also our fault as we should have confirmed her health insurance documents and we haven't.

I just called a broker and they said we can't start coverage now as it's the middle of the year and there was no major event in the last 60 days. Us being stupid doesn't count as such event unfortunately...

My question is: what can we do now? Is there a loop hole to get her health insurance before 2025 through the standard MD system? Is the only option short-term health insurance? If so, where do I go to find one?

Sorry for all the question - we're all freaking out as my international organization requires that she has health insurance and we just realized we do not conform with that requirement (and also we're freaking out because she doesn't have health insurance!). Luckily, she's healthy and nothing happened so far. Any guidance is much appreciated. We're really ignorant (as you can see) on this issue, as we're used to getting health insurance from our employer.
