Hi insurance experts! Please let me know if you can help with an $$$ technicality.
My partner was unemployed during panini. As such, he got health insurance covered by California.
After panini - he got a job that covered his health insurance (Kaiser)
Now - years later, the IRS is saying that he received state-covered health insurance (that he wasn’t eligible for anymore, and didn’t use) overlapping his job health insurance. Because they paid Kaiser on his behalf (again, despite him having other insurance with Kaiser) - he owes $4k.
This is a lot of money for us. We are having trouble finding a way out of this.
He didn’t receive any service and didn’t use it, and wasn’t even eligible for it. But now has to pay for it retroactively and it seems very nonsensical to us peasants.
Please help!
