Questions about New Primary Care Provider

Hi all! New to the community and glad I found it. Seeking opinions on how this doctor’s office operates, absolutely not medical advice. I called a new office last week to make a new patient appointment. It took a full hour interview on the phone to be scheduled for an appointment a month later.

In the meantime I was experiencing quite a bit of anxiety which was exacerbating my AFib and since their office takes walk-ins I went in the next day to see someone. The provider (she just introduced herself as a provider) prescribed an anti anxiety med and they provided it there in the office. I usually research any prescription I’m given carefully but I dropped the ball on this one. Some serious tachycardia kicked in and sure enough, she had prescribed a drug that has antihistimine in it which no one with a heart condition should be taking. I’m in the process of detoxing it now.

Then I learned that they had scheduled me for an echocardiogram before I could see the doctor I was assigned to. I asked the provider why I would need an echocardiogram when I already have a cardiologist and I’ve had 2 normal echos in the last year. She said it was mandatory for all new patients. I don’t like the idea of being scheduled and billed for unnecessary testing and to me it’s a red flag for what‘s to come. If you were me would you look for another PCP?
