I was laid off from my job earlier this year and qualified for Medicaid as a result, which my husband and I are both under in NY state. We have basically been avoiding going to any doctor's offices because I hoped I'd have a FT job by now, but alas, isn't in the cards I guess.
When we got approved, they had us choose a plan so we chose Blue Cross Blue Shield. So if I want to make doctor appointments, do I go to the Blue Cross website and look at doctors available in that plan? Do I have to call the doctors and check that they take Medicaid first? Do I owe a copay or have a deductible I have to meet out of pocket?
I tried getting this info from the NY state benefits office, but I couldn't figure out how to even get in contact with a real person. I'm so overwhelmed and confused by it all, so any help on the basics of how to utilize it would be immensely helpful.
