Someone has been talking to me about drafting a bill to establish a process for state hospital licensing agency to be required to investigate complaints about a hospital where the complaint is about a possible violation of state licensing requirements. Currently you can send them a complaint online, but they have no legal requirement to investigate anything and they generally refer you to the Joint Commission. I think CA and MN have statutes (have seen stuff about the process on their state websites, haven't dug for actual statutes or rules yet).
If you know of a state that hasa such a law, and particularly has a robust system for handling patient complaints, I'd love to hear about it.
