I just received a bill from an appointment in January and I owe over a thousand dollars for a 30 minute appointment at Northwell Health in NYC. It was originally $1521 but insurance paid almost $500. I had no idea a doctor’s visit could cost so much. They did perform an endoscopy to look in my nose which I was not aware was going to happen but the majority of the cost went to the office visit itself.
I was diagnosed with sinus polyps years ago and finally decided to get a consultation for surgery. The doctor did not find any nasal polyps and suggested a CT scan instead. I ultimately decided not to get a CT scan because of how expensive it would be but am saddled with a huge bill anyways.
I already called the doctors office to dispute it and will hear back in 7 to 10 days and called my insurance but is there anything else I can do in the mean time? Is this normal?
