I'm in the US and I have good insurance. I have been exceedingly negligent about going to the doctor for a long time. Something came up, and I cannot get a primary care appointment anywhere in my town. No-one is accepting new patients; if I try to explain the problem, they just cut me off and say "If it's a medical emergency, go to the ER." I find this very frustrating - they're very dismissive of me, like I'm wasting their time.
It's very embarrassing and extremely shameful - oh well, the anonymity of the internet I suppose. My right testis is very swollen and sore and rock hard. This is not an STD, as I am single and have been for a long time. In these circumstances, is it OK to just phone a urologist and ask if they'll see me? (Apologies, I'm an immigrant - in my home country you cannot go to a specialist without a referral from a primary care doctor).
If not, I guess, just wait and see and hope the swelling goes down. Perhaps it will. "Knock on wood :)" It's not an ER level emergency, I'm not bleeding or anything, so I can't go there. It'll probably be OK, silly to worry about something which might be fine by next week, but I thought I'd ask.
