My thought towards insurance in short is that the house always wins.
I’m a healthy (or so I thought) 28 year old male who is self employed. I haven’t needed the doctor or health insurance in nearly a decade. I became self employed a little over a year ago and insurance is outrageously expensive.
Unfortunately, I recently self diagnosed myself with tendinitis in my right knee and a stress fracture in my left tibia. The knee pain is been experiencing for ~1 year has gotten progressively worse & I’ve continued working out pretty rigorously. I believe that’s in part what let to what I am pretty confident is a stress fracture in my other leg due to overcompensating.
The main reason I’m tempted to go to the doctor is simply to see if I’d be better off having surgery since I don’t quite know the condition of it after having continued CrossFit 6 days per week for the past year.
I live in the US. I’ve seen stand-alone imaging centers might be more cost effective. Any other thoughts for continuing this as affordable as possible out of pocket.
I won’t qualify for government assisted health insurance.
