Navigating US healthcare

Alright, here we go. Immunocompromised person here. Recently had to switch insurance companies after years with the same one, due to a change in medication billing practice that would have impacted my cost by hundreds of dollars per month. Because of this, I’m having to establish new relationships with labs, doctors, pharmacies, etc. It’s a shitshow out here. Anyway, I went to a Optum lab for bloodwork. First issue: nobody could tell me what the very common tests would cost. Not even the billing dept. I guess it was supposed to be a fun surprise? Second issue: what should have been a ~24 turnaround at most turned into 8 days, and that’s only because I called to ask and remind them that the ordering doc had not received the results. Third issue: they wouldn’t release the results to me via an app or anything. Even though I’m paying, I can’t get access to the results, and nobody could tell me why they can’t at least be uploaded to the company’s own tracking system. Of course this total lack of competence is accompanied by rude people who really couldn’t care less whether I live or die. Is this all I can expect the healthcare system is able to deliver? Is there some way to dispute the charges based on what happened? And, is there a lab(s) you recommend? Centura seems to maybe have it together more? Also while I’m here, how does one go about getting a fantastic PCP who’s able to accept a new patient in less than 4 months? I hate the American healthcare system!!! It’s like all that matters is profit or something… TIA!
