Hello! Just wanted to get a feel for what advice might be tossed my way via this sub.
I’m a 5th year Gerontology/Family Services (think primary prevention, rather than crisis intervention-if you’re unfamiliar with the major) undergraduate student looking to graduate this fall.
I switched (my junior year) from graphic design, and now I’m doubling. I thought I wanted to go into healthcare as a long term care administrator, but I have ADHD and struggle with follow-through. Upon attending career workshops about the field, I worried about fulfilling the array of duties administrative work requires.
I’ve done two years of interning doing community-centered education on dementia. Kind of psycho-educational sessions where we brief caregivers/community members on dementia-friendly practices and what living with dementia might be like.
While I’m passionate about health-related education, I don’t find myself feeling like this is my calling. I have never thought of myself as an eloquent speaker/teacher, and would rather be on the programming end of things; perhaps behind a desk. I’m detail oriented and creative, but I’m feeling burnt out of forging connections rather than feeling like I’m truly igniting change.
Do I simply have the wrong perspective? What careers can I reasonably look towards? I have an interest in MPH (masters public health) programs and I can still pursue LTCA (long term care admin) licensure, but Im worried maybe the grass just looks greener?
