You know what F it I’m going to go it alone

When I was 16 my career officer said I would never be able to become a Doctor, I am now nearly 10 years board certified. I’ve been let go from 3 positions all at huge healthcare corps every time for standing up for patient and employee privacy or rights. Well I’m done, its going to take a bit of time but I’m going to do it right, better and on my own. I’ll make ends meet being a Hospice Doctor but I’m going to work towards opening a Direct Primary Care clinic. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on the model.

Basically you pay a monthly fee and get unlimited appts, a physical certain labs and imaging at no cost at the point of delivery. You have a list of fees for additional services not covered under the monthly fee, and still need gap insurance to cover hospital/ER/surgery or specialists but its much less than normal insurance premiums.

The math is that with the current model mega-corps will keep your practice open until you hit ~5000 patients which means there literally aren’t enough hours in the day to perform adequate prevention on them plus you have to push people through so quickly you miss huge things. With this model I can pick my cap based on my operating costs, say 1000 patients if its just me. That way I can spend more time with them, do more effective prevention for the same income. If it goes well enough you increase the cap to say 2500 but you add in a Advanced Care Practitioner you collaborate and trust to keep that quality high.

What’s everyone’s thoughts???
