TL;DR: My doctor was unjustly fired 6 months ago, and hospital will not tell me or any other of his patients what happened or where he is now. My insurance, state medical licensing board, NPI directory, and Google results still list him as at that hospital accepting new patients. How do I find my doctor when I am getting 2 different responses from the hospital and my insurance?
One of my doctors was (supposedly) fired a few months ago. Not sure exactly what happened, but I heard rumors that a treatment a patient needed was against the hospital's religious stance so they fired him over it. I do not want to see yet another specialist for my chronic illness so I have been searching everywhere to see if they are somewhere else now. The hospital will not give anyone information about this doctor and is simply stating he is no longer there. My prescriptions were transferred to the nurse practitioner in the same office, so I have not gone without them this entire time. All of my refills/renewals since then have had the np's name as the prescriber on the bottle. Last week, however, I received a renewal for something and it has my doctor's name on it with the same office address. It is a new rx# so it can't be an old prescription from when he was still working there. Out of curiosity I called the office to ask if he was back and was once again told no. How did I get this prescription with his name on it then, when all my other meds have been changed to the np? I am so confused at this point. I even looked him up on my insurance directory, and it still says he is at that hospital accepting new patients. Same with the state's medical licensing board, the national provider id database, and every single doctor review site on google. My insurance directory is apparently updated weekly, so shouldn't this info be changed now that he's been gone for 6 months? I feel like I am going around in circles trying to get answers as to where my doctor is at. My pcp's office happens to be next door, and I glanced at the name plate before going into my most recent appointment with her. The doctor's name is still on there but is covered with a paper with the np's name. There is also a sign in the front of the building with office numbers. His name is still on that also, but it is not covered up. Why hasn't the hospital removed/changed the nameplate by now? Are they hiding something from me and other patients? This doctor was/is very popular and had hundreds of patients who are now wondering where he is. I've seen discussions on community forums where dozens of people are trying to get answers from the hospital and are in the same boat as me. Why aren't we getting any information?? It's getting ridiculous at this point and I am terrified that I will have no one to turn to when my next flare happens. The np is trying to refer me back to my previous doctor at that hospital who completely dismissed my problems. I refuse to go back to them because of that. I just want my doctor back dammit!!
