United States. My husband had the flu (tested positive), went into acute respiratory failure at the ER. They sent him to the hospital. His stay was 3 days. This was 2 weeks ago. Just got a notice in the mail from his insurance that they approved one day of his 3 day hospital stay and denied the other two.
They said that the 2 days denied were not medically necessary since they did not get all the medical records they wanted.
So how was one day medically necessary and not the other two? And if he was "cured" by the second day, they why tf did no one say anything or why didn't they release him?
I don't really know what to do because I know that bill will come. Haven't gotten a bill yet. I have put in a call back to the billing department for the hospital but haven't gotten a call back yet.
I plan to appeal with the insurance but I don't know what else to do. I can't even believe this is happening. This doesn't even make sense. Something is not right here.
I feel like if I knew where the break in communication was, I could approach it from that angle. I want to play smart, not harder and fail.
