Hey y’all, dealing with bureaucracies is not my favorite-nor, am I particularly skilled in navigating them. I currently have health care through my job but I want to leave it soon and go to part time work to focus on my art and prepare for grad school. The trouble is I’ve had health issues in the past so I need pretty good insurance. I’m in CA and when I’ve looked at covered CA options any decent insurance is pretty far out of my budget. As I recall, insurance that was around $70-$100/month only covered catastrophic events. No coverage for regular doctor visits, etc. At this point, it would be more financially viable to save and prepare for an emergency. As I said, I’m not particularly well versed in bureaucracies-so I hope there is something I’m missing. But, I’m curious. What solutions have you found in the past? Other viable options? A friend of mine mentioned getting coverage through an insurance broker-but I have never heard of that and have no idea what the first step would be.
Also, I currently have double insurance-which has been a blessing as I recently had surgery. I have coverage through my job and Medi-cal. The issue is my Medi-cal is set to expire soon and my understanding is anyone above the poverty level does not qualify for benefits (I was a student when I qualified and coverage was extended due to the pandemic).Though I am again hoping I’m wrong and can still qualify for medi-cal.
Thanks!
