Needing an appointment for a walk-in clinic

Hey there, I have a question for health care workers because I am really perplexed. I have health insurance through Sutter Health a health company and chain of hospitals in California. My doctor asked me to go in and get a standard std test as it is time to do so. She told me that I could just walk I'm to a clinic during my lunch break (as she knows I am busy working 60 hours a week between two jobs and taking 18 units in college.) So I go to do so, twice they were on their lunch break, makes since as it was also mine. So I got off of work early to rush in between my last class and my second shift of the day. Well the very nice woman at the front desk asked me if I had an appointment. I was confused because I didn't think walk-in clinics needed an appointment as the name and my doctor told me I didn't need one. Well come to find out that now walk-in clinics are only opperating via appointments. I have been to one since covid without an appointment so I don't think that is the reason. Is this the new standard? Are walk-in clinics not walk in anymore? Just curious if anyone else has had this happen or if it is only Sutter Health.
