I received a bill recently for ~$400 for some xrays (after insurance) that were not described as opitonal to me when I went in for the visit - the doctor just said "I'm going to do some xrays to make sure my assessment is right". It was obviously right, and then I received a huge bill a month later.
However, after doing more research, it looks like medical debt below $500 will no longer be allowed on your credit report. So my question is -- what is the incentive for me to pay what I believe to be an unfair charge, or even bother disputing it? I guess I probably can't go back to that doctor, but anything else I'm missing?
