is it normal to have to wait over 1 month to get an appointment?

Hi! I am in Canada and I am wondering if it's normal to have to wait over a month to get an appointment with your family doctor/primary care physician? My doctor has been our whole family's doctor for ages and she's been seeing me since I was 7 years old and we built a great connection but it seems over the years she's taken on too many patients and we cannot get an appointment with her.

My grandparents who need frequent care felt that it would be safer for them to change their doctor as it was almost impossible to get an appointment with her at times so I found a new doctor for them.

I am sticking with our old doctor as I thought it was normal to have to wait a month or more to see your family doctor but my friend told me that it shouldn't be like that.

Can anyone provide me with some insights into this so I can decide whether to stay with our current family doctor and wait a month or longer for an appointment or move to a different doctor with better availability?

Thanks!
