HIPAA question: can former coworkers discuss a client/patient when one of them no longer works with that company?

No specific names or identifiable information (identifiable to the public, that is) would be shared, but intimate details about the patient’s life would be. For example, let’s say John (patient) had 5 cats and they all died because he had a manic episode and forgot to feed them. Would it be a HIPPA violation for his current case manager to share this with his previous case manager after she left the company and no longer had any contact with John? Trying to settle an argument. Thanks
