Looking for some advice. Sorry if this is the wrong place.
March 1st my mom has open heart surgery. It was supposed to last 4 hours but lasted 12 hours. They believe she had a stroke in surgery. She was on a ventilator for two weeks in the ICU. A week later then sent her to rehab. She lasted a week at which time the insurance said she was not making adequate progress and was sending her home.
She is on a feeding tube, cannot toilet, walk, sit up, and struggles to follow basic commands. There has been a significant reduction in cognitive functioning. She speaks, but many times does not make sense. She cannot move her right arm.
She is 61 and pays monthly for health alliance insurance costing over $1000 a month. My dad is 71 and cannot take care of her at home even though insurance is sending her home. The insurance believes she will not recover to who she was. They are on a limited income.
I am looking for advice on where to go from here…
Can she qualify for some kind of disability? She has not worked in 12 years or so.
Is there a way to get her on some kind of disability Medicaid?
Should we hire an attorney to look into the surgery?
We are at a loss and have no idea what to do. Thank you in advance for your help.
