I just found out that my insurance does not cover me getting a vasectomy because it is "not a preventative service" according to the Affordable Care Act. I am utterly dumbfounded.
- It most certainly is preventative. It is the most preventative medicine ever. It prevents a whole human (or a whole lot of humans) and all associated costs.
- Wouldn't the insurance company rather pay for the relatively cheap and easy procedure of a vasectomy rather than all the expenses associated with pregnancy?
- At the core is the blatantly sexist assumption that birth control is a woman's problem.
I really don't get it. All I can say is we need Single Payer Healthcare now.
