[Question - Insurance] Will Collectors come after me event though I didn't agree to 2020 ACA coverage?

A little bit of background:

in 2019 I aged out of my Mom's health insurance and got a plan that seemed reasonable money-wise, but was definitely sketchy during the process and now after the process.

I had signed up for a site to discuss with someone how I could get more information on the government healthcare website, because I didn't know anything about healthcare and asking my Mom for adult advice never pans out.

People called repeatedly and gave advice to the point where I stopped picking up the phone (most of them were bots and I would instantly hang up) and I wound up having to investigate on my own anyway.

Most of the plans on the marketplace were far too expensive for the money I made, so I was a bit frustrated and worried, but I was still ignoring the phone calls bc most of them were robots. Eventually someone left a voicemail on my phone with a phone number, and I called them back. They told me about some coverage plans and I selected one from Ambetter than in total was going to cost $203 per month and an enrollment fee up front. That was cheaper than the marketplace so I agreed.

It turned out that half of the price I was having to pay was going to go to "benefits", which included dental/vision discounts and a rx discount card. I didn't really care for this aspect, but the sites looked super sketchy and the links to them sessioned out after a few hours. A few hours later I was super concerned about the legitimacy of the sites so I wound up calling Ambetter about my account and they confirmed that I had a record there now.

Every month I'd pay $101 for benefits on the 1st and $102 for the actual insurance on the 15th. I didn't think of it much, bc Ambetter sent me mail often and I had an official account and everything. I could still log into the site the phone call guy (Drew???) sent me to, so I wasn't worried about that either. I don't go to the doctor much, only went twice during the whole year. Once for an annual checkup and second for a double-combo of the flu + ear infection. Ambetter didn't even cover my psychiatrist appointments, I covered that $115 fee out of pocket and stopped going to therapy. I could still get my medicine for $7 a prescription though, so I just took it in stride.

Fast forward to December 14th.

I got a new job that had health insurance, so I intended to change over at the start of the new year. I logged on to the health insurance marketplace and they said I could view my eligibility results and update my info for 2020. Tried going through all that but it never finished the API call. Just kept loading.

So I went to the Ambetter site and logged in. Clicked around for a good hour trying to find a way to not be enrolled in the 2020 plan, which the site told me I was already enrolled for 202. Nope! Not happening. I took my debit card info off there and sent several email complaints about not being able to decline enrollments. None of the complaints gave a human response.

Went to the third site for the "Benefits" but it wouldn't let me go to my personal page anymore. Looked around for a good 30 minutes trying to decline again, but considering I couldn't even see my info I gave up.

Since I saw 'Drew' had sent me an email reminding me to renew my coverage, I emailed him. It was automatically generated, but he gave out an email to contact him for further discussion. In that email I explained my situation and that I didn't want coverage for 2020. I never got a response.

Eventually I got an email saying I was automatically enrolled in a 2020 plan because I never updated my healthcare marketplace information. *eyeroll*

Fast forward to January 2nd.

I noticed I got charged for "benefits" for the month. Emailed my bank but I need to have a phone call to go further with keeping them from charging me.

I was grumbling to my friend about all of this after having to pay extra tax money for the health insurance, and they said the money I'm not paying for insurance/benefits might get sent to collections after a certain period of time since I'm not paying the fees.

So TL;DR:

Am I going to have to pay collections for this nonsense? Even though I'm trying every option available to not be charged for a plan I didn't agree to? I never paid the premium for 2020, and Ambetter is emailing me and calling me (with a robot....) to try to get me to pay.
