My niece has chronic kidney disease. I am not fully in the loop on her exact care regiment, but I do know she is taking an obscenely expensive medication. She is covered by insurance, but the cost is still unaffordable. Her father's church and employer charity have declined to assist and the drug manufacturer says they only have assistance programs for transplant patients (which she will be one eventually, but later is better than sooner). His financial plan of attack is to end medication and let her kidneys fail, then she will be covered by SSI. Is there any potential resource he is overlooking here?
