In case you don't know what happened to Lisa Edwards, she died from an ischemic stroke after being discharged from the *Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN despite pleading for help. The hospital even called the police when she refused to leave.
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, commonly referred to as just the "Joint Commission" is an organization which accredits 22,000 US health care organizations and programs including hospitals. You know how the health department comes in to inspect restaurants to make sure everything is clean, and if there are any violations the restaurant either gets time to improve or gets shut down. Well this is exactly what the Joint Commission does. They inspect hospitals to make sure they are doing everything right and then accredit them.
According to the Joint Commission's website qualitycheck.org, the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center received a Gold Seal of Approval®. This is a "nationally recognized distinction voluntarilу earned by a select set of healthcare providers who show "commitment to holding itself accountable to a high bar for quality and safety for those they sеrve." They also have an advanced certification for their Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center – the very condition that resulted in Edwards' death.
If you watch the police bodycam footage, you will notice that Lisa Edwards is slurring her speech, had difficulty walking and loss of balance/coordination as well as paralysis. These are all classic symptoms of a stroke according to the Mayo Clinic and other reputable sources.

Given the hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission, has a Gold Seal of Approval® and an advanced certification for their "Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center", how did they not recognize the classic symptoms of a stroke?
In NYC restaurants are required to display letter grades on their window of A, B and C indicating how clean they are. Now imagine going into a restaurant that has an A on the window but it turns out to be infested with rates and roaches. You will wonder how did the restaurant get the A rating. That's what I'm wondering. How did the hospital get accredited when they can't even recognize classic symptoms of a stroke and treated this woman so disgustingly?
