New adults especially females should have their own psychiatric units.
Last year at freshly 18 I was severely overmedicated at this hospital and left unattended while another patient preyed and sexually assaulted me. Because a psychiatrist on call didn’t think my autism diagnosis ‘met criteria’ I was not noted as an autistic individual it seems. So after I got the courage to report the incident to staff, they also then failed to explain specific details an autistic person would need, of the importance of me contacting the police. They did nothing to initiate any protocol of a SA victim apart from telling me to call their assaults line myself. The only evidence there is now (probably gone) is of the patient repeatedly leading me into his room (coincidentally they only installed cameras in the ‘pods’ the day after I voiced the incident. And possibly records of me being overmedicated. I was not able to peruse anything against the patient bc of lack of evidence..though there would’ve been dna evidence had I been not druggy and could even recognize what had happened. I wasn’t able to report this for a few days after. I remembered details the day after speaking to my mom, then after that they were gone from my mind. I was overmedicated on two benzos before it happened, and had antipsychotics in my system being down in the er prior for 3 days. (I was not in psychosis).
I’m in Ontario. I don’t know what to do, im scared to find out because it has been a year. But this has really taken a toll on me.
