Advice

Hi! I am a sonographer who graduated in May. I enjoy sonography, but it was difficult to find a job even though I am registered and there are a lack of positions in my area which sucks as my coworkers aren’t very nice but I know you can encounter this in all fields. I really enjoy the patient care aspect of my job but I spend only 45 minutes max with my patients. I am considering going to nursing school to become an RN while also doing ultrasound PRN to keep up with my skills. The variety of opportunities in nursing stands out to me and I know I will not have to worry about finding a job. I was wondering if anyone else did this as well? I know the responsibilities are different than ultrasound and they both have their own stressors. I want to have something aside from ultrasound as job security is a concern of mine, and being a full time sonographer is already starting to take a toll on my body. I don’t want to stop ultrasound completely, but I need another option as well. I’d love to be able to do more in healthcare and with my patients.
