I took my 4 year old in to Emerg due to no bowel movement for 3 days, no pee for 10 hours and abdominal pain. Tummy also felt very firm like a basketball. i was in Canada so this was covered under the kids universal MSP, but we also live in the USA sometimes where we have no standard insurance through work. should we get insurance if we're in the USA for 3 months a year? What would this cost? (please keep reading below)
We went to Emergency at a large childrens hospital. they took basic vitals and she was not deemed immediate high risk so we had to wait 2 hours but then we got a private room where nurses were coming in and out and two Pediatric doctors came in to check on her and run the basic standard questions.
What would this have cost in the USA. (on average).
-
A Room with constant nurses coming in and out for 6 hours doing basic monitoring of her vitals, blood pressure, oxygen % etc.
-
Ultra sound on abdominal area
-
Xray on abdominal area and lower chest
-
They ran her fluids. - Essentially did a Urine test to make sure nothing wrong with Kidneys
-
Blood work done
-
Enema up her bum
-
IV on her hand , going through two bangs of solution (one was saline, one was just a sugar water)
-
Couple popsicles and picture book with crayons to keep her chill
