A bit of background: My husband was recently hospitalized because he passed out and was struggling to recover. We had taken him to the ER to make sure there wasn’t a serious underlying issue and to maybe get him some fluids. Instead, it turned into three days and two nights in the hospital with a full battery of tests that all came back clean/negative. Even with everything looking fine and him feeling normal be the evening of our first day there, they put him on a 30 day heart monitor and gave a referral for a sleep study. All “out of precaution”.
The issue: We’re exhausted. This has been a huge imposition on our lives and, in anticipation of the absurd hospital bill we’ll likely receive, we had to cancel a trip we’d been planning for the past year. Quite frankly, we think this was just a mix of bad circumstances (very tired, in an overly hot shower, probably dehydrated, and moved from sitting to standing very quickly) and is unlikely to occur again. He already struggles to sleep so a sleep study would be hellish, and the idea of just continuously testing on the off chance that the doctors find something wrong is terrifying.
He has a follow-up appointment on Tuesday. Is there any reason we shouldn’t/can’t just tell them that we’re comfortable with the results we’ve received and to just close this matter? We understand that there is the inherent risk that there may be something we didn’t catch, but with how many tests and how much imaging has already been done, we’re fine with the remaining risk.
Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated!
