What can we do when insurance dropped and never told us?

My GF was on Medicaid and she went to the doctors and received a bill saying she had no insurance. she then found out that Medicaid dropped her a few months back. Now we are unable to add her to my works healthcare because 30 days have passed. What are our options? Also shouldn’t they have sent a letter at least warning us?
