Jobs in Cancer/Oncology research or related careers?

Hi all,

I need some general advice at a crossroad. I have my Masters in education administration and have worked in IT/tech for 10 years.

I left edu admin due to the pay and lack of resources, generally though after being part of the corporate wheel for a while I am ready to do something fulfilling with my skills in data analysis, operations, and documentation amongst other skills. I want to place an emphasis on using my skills to better society and help improve cancer patient outcomes and research.

I am certified as a CPC-A, and am looking to branch into other medical coding specialties - but do not actively work in the field yet. My heart actually really wants to work in Oncology/Cancer related fields, but I’m not sure what options I have.

I am debating on pursuing becoming a Cancer Tumor Registrar/Oncology data specialist but before I sink more time and money into a program considering I am also leaning toward advancing my medical coding certifications (I currently tutor in these subjects and am thinking of branching into a medical coding role). There is an option to also become a certified hematology and oncology coder (CHONC) but am not sure if this route is worth it.

I’d like to learn what other career paths or certifications exist to work in oncology or cancer related fields that are not an oncologist or doctor in this field?

Please let me know. Thank you.
