I am taking care of this one patient. I’m concerned some of her behavior might be signs of mental illness.
1. She consistently has a disregard for hygiene and expects me to participate in it. She gets upset when I use gloves to dispose of her dirty pads, if I want to use a paper towel to pick up her cats poop, if I want to flush toilet after she goes to bathroom.
2. She has anxiety that is expressed through neediness. Like needing something every thirty seconds but a lot of the time she doesn’t actually need anything. She will call for me in a panic and then say “I don’t need anything just wanted to know if you could hear me.” She has this personality that’s a mix of anxiety & something I can’t place. Like attention seeking on purpose. She enjoys emotional reactions from others and she gets annoyed with me because I don’t react. It’s almost like she wants me to be aggravated at her and confuses me. She makes comments like “I’m not trying to be mean to you.” “You must not want to take care of me.” “You’ll probably never come back to help me.” I’m not sure why she does this. I understand it could be due to anxiety, but it makes me wonder if it’s something else. This is because when I reassure her everything is ok she seems mad and not relieved? Like she wants a negative reaction. She will also ask for one weird thing and watch me closely all the way to me sitting in my chair wait five seconds and ask for something else just as odd back to back.
3. When we sit together she stares at me. Atleast thirty times in a hour she stops what she’s doing to stare at me. I ignore it but if I look back she pretends she’s not looking quickly.
It’s odd behavior to me. I’m not different looking. Normal, no tattoos, no piercings, no crazy hair all natural colors. I don’t understand what she’s looking at me for.
Is this normal? I’ve never dealt with a patient like this.
