After being unemployed for almost a year, I was recently hired by a startup that has terrible medical insurance plans due their small number of employees. Their limited options have high monthly premiums and deductibles for family plans. Excluding healthcare costs, my salary is sufficient. I was unaware of their healthcare costs or I would've included the added expense in my salary negotiations. Now, I'm exploring health coverage options or alternatives to conventional insurance plans before finalizing my elections at the end of the month. Family members have pre-existing medically managed health issues and we're trying to recover financially after a rough year.
In addition to the Healthcare Marketplace plans, which are comparable to my company's plans, I've heard about cooperatives, healthshares, direct primary care, and possible self-pay discounts. Any experience with any of these alternatives? Are there any other types or plans available that I should look into? Insights, and also any suggestions for pharmacy plans, greatly appreciated.
