We enrolled and paid for health insurance via healthcare.gov in 2021 based off our income at that time. We left those jobs in the middle of 2021 and did not replace the income. We had numerous issues with our premium amounts throughout 2021 as a result of the income decrease.
At the end of 2021, we were notified our policy premiums were being calculated off of the 2020/2021 income we no longer received and 10x the amount of what we should be paying. Given the issues of the past year, we were determined to ensure all the financials reflected our situation accurately from the outset.
November 2021-February 2022 we continued to contact Blue Shield, the CA healthcare marketplace, and Medicaid reps to correct the financials. In December 2021, we were notified without our approval or participation of plan enrollment at the higher rate for 2022. Our payment type on file was charged automatically in January 2022 and February 2022, despite our numerous attempts to cancel our policy, etc.
As a result we had to contact our financial institution and block payment requests from Blue Shield, as all our attempts to correct and the cancel our account was unsuccessful.
We have a tight financial situation. We could not afford the increase of $2 to $200+/month for insurance. We did pay $400+ out of pocket for the January and February premiums we did not sign up for nor utilize. We received a 1095a reporting advance tax payments for January, February and March 2022.
This incorrect document further reduces our tax return, and reflects a policy we did not apply for or utilize, despite being forced to also pay for the monthly premiums.
Please, if anyone has guidance on how to proceed/correct this form/get refunded for past premiums I’d be so grateful.
Thank you.
