I turn 26 in november and was doing some casual research today to see what my options might be. I entered my info into healthcare.gov because I wanted some information, and got a call almost immediately. I got transferred multiple times and ended up with who I assume is an agent who wanted to get me through signing me up very quickly. I just wanted to learn about my options for plans and suddenly was coerced that my dad (whose insurance I am one) would be so much happier I found a cheaper plan and should go in it immediately. I just wanted to get off the phone so I guess I ended up giving this guy my credit card for a $4/month plan. it felt so scammy because at each transfer I was clear I wasn’t there to be signed up yet and he spoke so quickly. I have multiple chronic conditions one of them being MS and have a $0 copay program on my very expensive drug, a program not available with “federal insurance” - not entirely sure of the intricacies of that because I need to look into it and wanted to look into it before saying yes to this. He submitted an application and told me to make sure I cancel my other plan before this one kicks in or there could be fines. I called back within an hour to ask someone else that it be cancelled. I didn’t feel good at any point during the situation. I’m worried about it going through and being charged for the application- I don’t want this guy to have wasted my time AND $4 on top of it.
I thought surely that healthcare.gov would be legitimate since it is a federal program, but this just seemed everyone i spoke to was a fast talking salesman who didn’t actually care if the plan was any good for me. what gives?
