Got a new job and my first day was March 6. Since I had my old job for the first few days of March, I’m still covered for March through that.
My new job has a 90 day wait time for the new insurance to kick in, which I knew about going into the job. Better pay, much better benefits with this job, so I am okay to wait a bit.
My husband has insurance through his work, in the past I have covered him on mine, but my last job had such expensive and not awesome insurance that he had to go on his own. In hindsight, I should have gone on his.
Anyway, for the 60ish day gap between my old insurance running out and my new insurance kicking in, I’m considering getting on my husband’s insurance, then me switching and bringing my husband on to my new job’s awesome insurance.
I know me quitting my old job is a qualifying life event and I would be able to get on his, but would we be able to switch both of us onto mine when the waiting period ended?
My husband is also considering a new job, so it is possible he will quit near the end of my waiting period. That would definitely be a QLE, but if he decides to stay, could we both switch when the new insurance becomes available?
I know that you can be without insurance for a couple months in one year and be fine tax wise, however I have recently had some seizures that landed me in the ER, so I’d like to have coverage for the two months.
I live in Virginia, US.
