Today I scheduled a routine appointment with a specialist (one I have been seeing for 20 years) and was told my specific insurance was not listed as one they accept. (Note - my plan shares the name of a competing health network but is a separate company and I work for a third party company that is not affiliated with the competing network.) My insurance his high deductible and has in and out of network benefits listed on my card with corresponding deductible.
I was transferred to the insurance area who I tell that I will pay cash the day of visit (I have an HSA) if they won't bill only to be told that their policy is not to allow self pay if I have insurance. I kept getting asked if I worked for the competitor which I don't and if I have out of network benefits which I do. They are the ones who are choosing not to bill my insurance but won't let me self pay....what a catch 22 this is to be able to continue to see my specialist. Now I wait for a call back. What has health care come to when they won't even allow you to pay cash for a service?
