For context, my relatives recently moved to the US, got their green cards, and applied for insurance that kicked in on Jan 1st of this year. The doctors visits took place after that.
My aunt(55F) had developed an abscess that later got infected and the pain became unbearable forcing them to go see a doctor and she needed minor surgery because they feared it would spread internally and infect her organs as it was on her stomach.
She stayed 3 nights, had surgery, after care, etc etc. Her husband(62M) and her aren't well-versed on US healthcare yet.
She is the only one working at a restaurant as a hostess and her husband is currently unemployed and looking for work.
What measures can they take to perhaps bring down some of the costs incurred? What can they do? Is there financial assistance they can receive in easing this burden?
Your help and suggestions would be really appreciated.
