Hello. I work in a physical therapy setting as an exercise physiologist. Today, I’ve had a massive headache that mimicked migraines but it wasn’t a migraine.
I had a nurse patient with me when I realized my headache was because I ran out of my lexapro meds… so I asked her how withdrawals are like.
Anyway, my coworkers have even worried so I told my PTA coworker “I think my headache was because of running out of lexapro! I’ll be okay!”
Fast forward to 10 mins later. I was supposed to work with that PTA’s patient. She didn’t want to work with me because she said it was inappropriate that I said I took lexapro (I didn’t even go into depth. I just said I realized that was the source of my headache!)
She called me unprofessional for sharing my private medical info… but it’s mine not others (duh HIPPA exists for this)
I cried in the bathroom that my boss let me go home because of how awful I thought I was.
Did I do anything wrong? I’ve had nurses, doctors, and other healthcare people share their medical stuff (ex: “oh I’m anemic!” Or “I have diabetes so I take ___)
I just feel like I did something wrong and I’ve been beating myself up over it. Please give me a peace of mind if I did something wrong or not. Thanks!
