She does not have insurance but is a Canadian citizen.
I am an American visiting Newfoundland. My wife is from the province to clarify.
At 3:30 in the morning my wife woke me up because of a terrible pain in her ribcage. Her pain threshold is high so I was very surprised and worried. She thought she was dying.
It escalated to the point where we had to get her to the emergency room. My in-laws phoned the ambulance which is weird to me. My instinct was to jump in the car and get my wife to the hospital because we Americans know how much an ambulance ride can be.
The ambulance arrived within 20 minutes and she received attentive and professional care from the paramedics.
I rode along with the ambulance and the driver was incredible. He could tell I was worried and was an incredible wholesome human being.
We arrived and I checked in with a thoughtful and kind nurse. My wife had a doctor within 30 minutes and he was able to identify the issue after only a few questions.
She had stomach ulcer issues before, but none have ever been this painful. We had guessed maybe a gallstone.
We received her scrip and were back in our place by 5:30 that morning.I am so grateful but incredibly angry at the same time.
The US system is complete bullshit and I am sick of it. Every system has it’s pros and cons but it is the US system, that is bleeding Americans dry.
