I have a whole long post I could put here, but I'll paraphrase instead.
I belong to a medical practice with multiple locations and multiple doctors, specialists, etc. My current PCP is out on maternity leave.
A few weeks ago I noticed a lump on my leg. I watched it, it didn't get bigger, it may have gotten smaller but I want to have it checked out.
I can my PCP, find out she's on maternity leave and ask for my options. Basically they were telehealth visit or go to urgent care. Long conversation about how telehealth won't really work, and I have a PCP so I don't have to go to urgent care and get subpar care for this issue.
Nurse says she'll check some things and call be back.
She calls back, she spoke to the nurse practitioner, who said she wanted a telehealth visit to determine if I need to be seen. I again tell her I don't want to waste time and money on a telehealth visit. She says she wants to know by symptoms. You know, a lump on my leg. I again refuse telehealth because that is not the answer.
She checking again, I doubt she'll call back
Oh, and my other option is switching to a different PCP in the practice but then I won't be able to switch back after she comes back (because she's not accepting new patients)
I, personally, find it infuriating that my health care has to suffer because the "plans" they made to convert maternity leave are shitty at best.
One would have thought that arrangements could have been made with other doctors to see these types of problems...
