Why are physicians, the only professional in the world you have to pay, even if they do nothing?

If I went to a mechanic, and he looked at my car, saw a flat tire, than made me pay him $100 for saying "your tire is flat". No one would EVER see any mechanics ever again. Add that to lawyers, dentists, restaurants, concerts, bars, they would all shut down if they charged you the way "Doctors" do. Why do we accept this as a society?
