Why do receptionists/doctors lie about coverage?

This is more of a rant than a question times ive had receptionists/hc specialist literally lie and say my that they take my healthcare and then i get a bill for $75 for tylenol like 2 weeks later. One time i had to get my brother who is an attorney on the phine ti explain that they had to bill the state for a covid test. Its like if u dint know the law ur fucked. I get that i should be responsible for looking it up myself but like why are they legally allowed to literally lie about billing thats fucked up. Theyre probably told to do to make more money. Scummy af.
